New Thrills Theatre Festival (NYC)
1) One entry per applicant.
Anyone is able to apply, as there is no application fee.
However, a $50.00 fee (non-refundable) will be induced if your play is accepted into the festival (all accepted money will be put toward the grand prize).
FIRST PLACE GRAND PRIZE WINNINGS:
1) $350.00 (paid by check)
2) A meeting with No Frills’ Staff about producing
a full length play in our 2020 Season
2) Plays should be e-mailed in a PDF format to nofrillstheatrecollective@gmail.com
3) Plays will be accepted until June 15th, 2019.
Winners will be announced June 30th, 2019.
4) If selected for the festival, Playwright understands that they must provide actors, a director, etc. and fully produce their 10 minute play.
If needed, we may be able to provide management, if available.
Those who are associated with No Frills Theatre Collective (i.e. artistic directors, management, crew, etc) may NOT participate in the festival, unless hired as crew for productions or judging the outcome of the entered plays.
Associates may not direct, act, write or do anything creative within the festival. -No photography or videography are allowed inside the performance space. We will capture the festival and send you what you need.
4) Plays must not have been in fully produced or published before (readings are acceptable).
5) You may not have your play produced anywhere else from May until September. To do so will disqualify you from the festival.
CREATIVE RULES OF ENTRY
1) Your play must have a title page, in the correct format, and have page numbers.
2) Plays must be written in English (exceptions are phrases/words in other languages to forward the plot).
Shows must be delivered in English so as to facilitate the varying capabilities of our staff and judges and to maintain an equitable ejudication process. No Frills is accepting of all languages, cultures and religions. This rule is in place so as to not negatively effect a playwright’s end score amongst judges’ who may not all be familiar with multiple languages.
3) Provide a brief synopsis of your play (200-word maximum).
Relevant information such as casting requirements, genre, plot, imagined technical requirements, character names, age, and brief descriptions.
Plays for children will not be considered.
4) Submitting author is (or authors, when in collaboration, are) sole owner of script copyright
TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR PRODUCTION
1) If you do not have a tech crew, you may employ one from No Frills Theatre Collective for $20.00 for your tech rehearsal and performance.
The fee will not incur if you would like them to watch your last rehearsal before your tech rehearsal.
2) Plays must be 10 minutes and no longer than 15 minutes when fully performed.
You can gauge this by your page numbers (I.E. 1 Page = 1 Minute).
If your production goes over your allotted time it will negatively effect your score with the judges.
3) There is a strict 5 minute to load in, 5 minute to load out rule.
If your production goes over your allotted time it will negatively effect your score with the judges.
4) You may not have an expansive amount of set, costumes, props, etc.
This is a No Frills festival, so the point is to get to the root of the play, without hindering it with cumbersome set pieces or props.
5) You may not use the following: live flame, haze, guns that fire blanks, prop weapons that are not under permit/not marked that they are props, sugar glass, confetti, live animals, drugs, alcohol.
6) You may not change the light plot. Whatever the light plot is, stays as is. We may be able to change the wash of color, if need be.
7) If your play involves singing or live music, this all must be set up within the 5 minute load in/load out timeframe.
