The Emerging Artists Theatre (EAT) NEW WORK SERIES (NWS)

The Emerging Artists Theatre (EAT) NEW WORK SERIES (NWS) is a three-week developmental program that provides theater artists of different disciplines the opportunity to present one performance of a polished “work-in-progress” with audience feedback. Most pieces selected for NWS will have never before been performed in front of an audience. Some selections will have been performed once or twice but will feature new material. We are not interested in seeing established pieces of theatre. We want to see something brand spanking new hit the stage for the first, or nearly the first time. We like to think of this series as an opportunity for artists to share an early draft of a new piece. There is no submission charge, and no obligation to participate if chosen. Plus participants receive 50% of the box office. Successful Fringe, NYMF, and Off-Broadway shows have been borne out of this series, and Emerging Artists is excited to present a new round of opportunities to local artists for yet another year.

We are now accepting submissions for the following new works:

TROY FOUNDRY THEATRE IS ACCEPTING PLAY SUBMISSIONS FOR 2020 MARCH SESSION OF DARK DAY MONDAYS FREE READING SERIES

The selected plays will be presented in staged reading format with the possibility of being considered for full staging.  Please see below for details and submission directions.

We’re calling for submissions of plays that meet the following criteria:
  • Work well in a non-proscenium seating environment, allowing the possibility of being performed in non-traditional spaces like a storefront, rooftop, old house or hotel, restaurant, pub or brewery
  • Feature immersive elements or takes advantage of being performed amidst or among (not “at”) a live audience
  • Will benefit from a full-day workshop experience with a director, actors and an audience to play among
  • Have not been fully produced.  Previous workshops and readings are fine. 

HOW TO SUBMIT:

Submissions for the 2020 MARCH session will be accepted until midnight on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

New Moon Minute writers' LGBTQ group (NYC)

New Moon Minute is a monthly writers’ group taking place on or around the New Moon, in which participants will develop 10-15 minute works for the stage that fall within the boundaries of Water House’s mission to produce Queer Mythos Theatre. We seek works that stretch and challenge the boundaries of writing. We seek artists interested in using visual components beyond the written word and exercising text in non-narrative ways. The work developed in New Moon Minute should begin on paper - in notation - and grow to flower on the performer's body.

New Moon Minute is part of our lunar and seasonal programming cycle, which includes the monthly Full Moon Sing and annual A Minute Flowering showcase.

New Moon Minute will have five monthly writers-only sessions beginning in February and concluding in June, culminating in a showing of writers’ works produced by Water House Collective, called A Minute Flowering.  Each writers-only session will be no more than 3 hours long and will take place on or around the new moon (based on writers’ availability). Writers will be asked to read each others’ pieces in between sessions, however the works are short (less than 20 pages) and most reading and feedback will be done during workshop hours.

In the final months, additional meetings and rehearsals with actors and guest directors will be scheduled as necessary. Calling upon the extended Water House Collective network, we will strive to offer contributing writers’ pieces as much (or as little) development as they see fit.

ETHOS

Each session will be informed by ritual, beginning with something like prayer, proceeding into mindful and transformative discussion, mapping, working. Our structure for feedback and discussion is inspired by Quaker practice, where we will each carefully consider how work is speaking to us and how our voices will contribute to the generative growth of the artistic conversation - a force that is shared by those of us that are present together. We will end each meeting with a quiet, reflective time to consider the lunar cycle and editing process, to prepare writers re-entry into the normal world.

WHO WE SEEK

Emerging writers who identify as Queer in some fashion and lack institutional or formal support, particularly for their submitted work, and those who may be interested in ritual performance or have a fascination with lunar cycles. Queer & Trans People of Color (QTPOC) voices are especially welcome.

WHAT WE SEEK

Proposals for new prompts for performance (scripts, diagrams, poems, designs, etc) that are in seedling phase. We are especially interested in developing works that queer performance; these may be difficult to describe, include many disparate design or performance elements, or are impractical or improbable or impossible but still unquestionably works for performance. We do not require that plots feature queer characters or narratives.

If you would like your piece or selection to be included in a group showing at the end of the workshop process, it should be no longer than 15 minutes when performed in full.

NOTE

New Moon Minute is not a grant or funding opportunity. Water House will provide rehearsal and performance space, refreshments, feedback, and will secure directors and performers for the final showing, but at this time, we are unable to provide additional funds for exploration or stipends for accepted writers.

IF INTERESTED

Please submit:
  • a script of something (else) you have made. This sample may be either a document file or image file, so long as it can be opened with Google, Microsoft Office, or other standard software. The Water House Collective creative clerks will read about 10 pages per submission, in images or text or some combination. If you submit more than 10 pages, please tell us which 10 to review.  
  • a ~300 word description of the work you hope to develop and what you aim to achieve during this process. 
  • a list of the last three artistic projects you created/participated in that you LOVED, with one sentence describing each. We will not disqualify anyone based on their resume, we would simply like a broader sense of who you are as a performance maker. 
  • if you have a website/social media presence/cool YouTube video of yourself/anything special you would like us to know or see, please include it.

New Victory LabWorks 2020

New Victory LabWorks is committed to fostering an inclusive program where every artist feels welcome. We encourage creators who are diverse in identity, perspective, ability and experience to apply. We believe it is important for young audience members from all communities to see themselves represented on stage with stories that are relevant to their lives.

2020 – 21 New Victory LabWorks Artist Applications

Applications are now open for the 2020-21 New Victory LabWorks program. Applications are due by 5pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

Join us for a LabWorks Info Session and Networking Event on January 15 from 5-6pm to learn more about application requirements, meet with New Victory staff members and former and current LabWorks Artists, and ask questions. The Info Session will also be live streamed on the New Victory Facebook and Instagram pages. RSVP to attend the in-person or digital info session.

Program Requirements
  • Artist(s) must be NYC-based and available to participate between August 2020 and July 2021.
  • Artist(s) must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Artist(s) must apply with a concept for a specific project. The project must be intended for family audiences (artist does not need prior experience in creating work suitable for families).
  • Proposed project must be in development, but may be at any point during development, including initial concept.
  • Artist(s) must have secured the rights to use or incorporate any pre-existing material (if applicable) as part of the proposed project.
  • Artist(s) must be able to attend rehearsals in Manhattan. Rehearsal hours are typically Monday through Saturday, within the hours of 10am to 6pm.
  • Artist(s) must be interested in actively participating in all aspects of the New Victory LabWorks program, including professional development, monthly meetings with the 2020-21 LabWorks cohort, peer-based exchange and peer and/or audience feedback.

Live & In Color seeks plays & musicals for 2020

Live & In Color is looking for playwrights, composers, and lyricists of color and/or other underrepresented communities interested in developing their new musical or play. The work must be able to be performed with a multiethnic cast.

The winning musical submission will have a two-week workshop this fall at The Bingham Camp in Salem, Connecticut culminating in a staged presentation to an invited audience.

The winning play submission will have a one-week development period this fall at The Bingham Camp in Salem, Connecticut culminating in a reading for an invited audience.

Scholarship opportunity - Annual Comedy Writing Intensive for Women

A two and a half day intensive for funny feminist writers. You know who you are. You make people laugh with your short stories, essays, articles, poems. But something stops you from finishing your work and submitting it. You are a bit fearful of your humor because there is a certain power in it. Yep, you possess power in a man’s world and that’s, well, that’s revolutionary. This intensive is for you – women who know they write funny but for whatever reason have put those funny pages to the side. It is time to step it up, gals. There’s an election right around the corner!

This intensive is for just 10 writers. From Thursday evening to Sunday morning we will discuss the fundamentals of writing humor and find ways to strengthen the humor in our  work. You will bring to the intensive a short piece to work on and at the end of the weekend you will have an essay, ten minute play, vignette, memoir or fake news article to submit to major media outlets.

COST: $850.00. Includes opening night reception, two dinners and two days of intensive workshop of up to 10 pages of work.

There is a SCHOLARSHIP of $300 towards registration fee awarded for up to three writers available.

DATES: March 19 – 22 2020

LOCATION: The Southampton Inn - 91 Hill Street, Southampton, NY 11968. The Comedy Writing Intensive for Women has has secured a discounted group rate of $125 per room, per night (including breakfast) at the Southampton Inn (single occupancy). GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION:
1) Submissions are accepted in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, plays and screenplays.

3) All submissions must be double spaced and all pages must be numbered.

Women's Project Theatre Lab 2020 - 2022

WP Theater is looking for early career women+ playwrights, directors, and producers who crave an artistic home, professional support, and the resources to launch them into the next phase of their careers to join the WP Lab.

The Lab provides up to fifteen artists with community, a vital professional network, entrepreneurial and leadership training, free rehearsal space and, most significantly, tangible opportunities for the development and production of bold new work for the stage.

Applications for the 2020-2022 lab will close on January 6, 2020 at 11:59pm.

All materials will be reviewed by a panel of theater professionals. Finalists will be notified in the spring 2020 and asked to interview. The 2020-2022 Lab will begin in September 2020.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must be a woman+ artist living within 90 minutes of WP Theater via car or rail
  • Must be able to attend evening meetings at WP Theater twice each month for the duration of the two years, as well as other events throughout the year, such as master classes, retreats, observerships and other special events at WP
  • Regular attendance is mandatory and therefore applicants should view the program as a two-year-long commitment
  • Must be available for an in-person interview


THE PARTICIPATING ARTISTS WILL:

  • Receive a stipend
  • Participate in a monthly lab meeting led by WP Artistic Staff and Lab Liaisons
  • Participate in a bimonthly meeting of the five artists in their concentration led by a mentor in their field
  • Participate in master classes led by established artists
  • Receive complimentary tickets to WP shows, invited dress rehearsals and other special events
  • Receive artistic support and professional development guidance from the artistic staff
  • Participate in The Pipeline Festival, a festival of five new plays, written, directed and produced by the WP Lab, to be presented during the second year of the residency

  • The play must be at least 60 pages long, and must be a completed draft, though it need not be a final draft.

  • You may also include a link to your website, or other online resources.
  • Additional materials should not exceed 3 pages and may include reviews (no excerpts) and photos

Neukom Institute Literary Arts Award for Playwriting 2020

The Neukom Institute, the Dartmouth Department of Theater and Vox Theater have once again joined together for the Neukom Institute Literary Arts Award for Playwriting.

The award-winning play will receive a workshop and public reading at VoxFest at Dartmouth College (July 5-13 2020) followed by an additional workshop and reading in the 2020/2021 season at Northern Stage, a LORT-D theater in White River Junction, VT.

Plays should be written in response to the prompt: “What does it mean to be a human in a computerized, digital world?”

The award comes with a $5,000 honorarium.

Submissions must include a blind copy of the play, a resume/bio, a production history of the play and a one page statement of purpose that answers the following questions:

1. How does your play address the theme of exploring humanity in our computerized, digital world?
2. What are your goals for this play in its current form?
3. The winning play will receive two readings: one at VoxFest at Dartmouth College and the second in the 2020/2021 season at Northern Stage. How would you use this two-part development process to achieve these goals?

*Note that plays that have received a full production are not eligible for the competition.*

Chain Theatre Playwriting Lab

Chain Theatre Playwriting Lab continues its commitment to developing new plays by diverse artists and underrepresented voices in the American Theatre. Since its inception, Chain has developed plays focusing on what unites us, links us together as well as what divides us. This is a highly collaborative process with a personal, intensive focus on the playwright, your story, and your words.

CHAIN PLAYWRITING LAB SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Eligibility:

  • All playwrights must be NYC based artists. 
  • Must be part of an under-represented community in the arts. Female identifying, a person of color, LGBTQ, or trans artists are encouraged to apply. 
  • Must be full length plays. 70 pages or more with a completed draft. 
  • Playwright must have all necessary rights. 


Application Process:

Applications will be accepted Oct 25, 2019 – Dec 12, 2019. Free to submit and participate. Include the following with your submission:

  • Resume and Bio. 
  • History of where the play has been previously produced or developed.
  • PDF Attachment of your play. It must be a completed draft. 
  • Must be available for in-person interview.

THE LAB

This is an intensive, highly collaborative process. We ask that you only submit if you have the availability to participate in the Lab.

Playwrights will meet regularly with your Director and the Director of the Lab. While each play will have different needs depending on how far along in the development process your play is, a typical timeline for the Lab would be: Weeks 1-2, meet with the Director and the Director of the Lab once a week to discuss your work and structure. Following each of these meetings, you will be given time to work on the play outside of the Lab and return with any changes. Weeks 3-5, actors are brought in to read through the script and/or work on specific scenes. At a second meeting during these weeks, you will meet with the Director to discuss what was learned from the previous rehearsal and any possible changes to consider. Week 6, there will be two to three rehearsals to fine tune the intentions of the characters with the actors in preparation for the staged readings.

A Director will be chosen for you from the Chain Theatre Team, so plays that already have a director attached cannot be considered. All actors will be chosen by the Director and the Chain to ensure an opportunity to hear the text with a fresh voice.

Following the 6 weeks of development, playwrights will be given two professional staged readings at Chain Theatre with an invited audience. Tickets to the staged reading will be FREE to all patrons. Staged Readings will take place February 21st - February 23rd, 2020. All plays developed are candidates for full production for the Chain 2020 Season.
LEADERSHIP

Chain Playwriting Lab will be led by Ella Jane New, Ella is a theatre and film maker based in NYC. After receiving her MFA from University of London, Ella wrote and directed Banquet of Chestnuts at the George Wood Theatre in London, where she received the Goldsmiths New Writing Award. Other awards include: WOMEN MAKE MOVIES Fellowship and Eastman Foundation Grant and was chosen for the Creative Minds Program in association with Sundance Institute & Sundance Film Festival. Ella's work has been seen around the world at the U.N. Global Wake-Up Fest; Unspoken human rights Festival and has received distribution by BBC Worldwide, Al Jazeera and Globostat Brazil."

Ms. New will on hand, moderating the rehearsal and development process. Christina Elise Perry, Director of Outreach for the Chain Theatre, will also oversee the completion of the Lab in collaboration with the Chain Theatre’s Artistic Director, Kirk Gostkowski, and Literary Director, John Arthur Long.

All rehearsals and meetings will take place at the Chain Theatre located at 312 W. 36th Street, 4th Floor.

One-Act New Plays Workshop 2020

The Theatre of Western Springs (Illinois) Directors’ Workshop Program One-Act NEW PLAYS WORKSHOP August, 2020.

Anyone interested in submitting a script for consideration should follow these One Act Play Submission Guidelines:

Submission Deadline: January 9, 2020

Notification of Selected Plays: June, 2020 (earlier if possible)
Entry Fee: None

  •  Plays must not have been previously produced or published.
  • Plays shall be full complete works, not a scene or act from a lager work or work-in-progress.
  • The playwright’s name should not appear anywhere in the script.
  • Include two title pages: One title page should contain a) the name of your play, and b) your name, address, phone number, and email address. The second title page should include only the title of your play, as this will be a blind read. The document should contain no identifying information about the author in any way on any page except the one title page, which will not be revealed until the plays are selected.
  • Plays should run no less than 15 minutes, or more than 45 minutes in length.
  • Plays must be typed in standard play format.
  • If you’d like to, please include play’s development history as a separate document. e.g. had a staged reading at Chicago Dramatist. If none, not necessary.
  • Please include a synopsis of your play in 50-100 words.
  • Production criteria include scripts able to be produced with open staging and minimal design/ technical support for a 117-seat black box theater.
  • Play must be able to be performed with no more than six actors (double casting is okay). Note that younger actors may be difficult to cast.
  • Manuscripts will not be returned. Please do not send return envelopes with postage.
  • Playwrights retain full rights to all works submitted. However, TWS shall be named as “first
  • produced”
  • Selected plays will have a production mounted in August 2020 (exact dates unknown at this time) at The Theatre of Western Springs with at least three performances.
  • Playwrights are encouraged to attend rehearsals and collaborate with the director – the purpose is to both help the playwright to fine tune the script and the director to collaborate on a new script.
  • Playwrights are requested to attend and participate in a post-show discussion after each performance.

- Plays must be typed in standard play format.
- If you’d like to, please include play’s development history as a separate document.  e.g. had a staged reading at Chicago Dramatist.  If none, not necessary.
- Please include a synopsis of your play in 50-100 words.
- Production criteria include scripts able to be produced with open staging and minimal design/ technical support for a 117-seat black box theater. Play must be able to be performed with no more than six actors (double casting is okay). Note that younger actors may be difficult to cast.
- Manuscripts will not be returned. Please do not send return envelopes with postage.
- Playwrights may submit multiple plays and retain full rights to all works submitted.  However, TWS shall be named as “first produced”.
- Selected plays will have a production mounted in August 2020 (exact dates unknown at this time) at The Theatre of Western Springs with at least three performances.
- Playwrights are encouraged to attend rehearsals and collaborate with the director – the purpose is to both help the playwright to fine tune the script and the director to collaborate on a new script.
- Playwrights are required to attend and participate in a post-show discussion after each performance. If the playwright is unavailable for all performances, his/her play may not be selected.

Submissions can be for a reading, workshop or full production.

Applications for full productions must come from a Production Company (not an individual) to be considered.

Playwrights Center Core Writer Program

The intent of the Core Writer Program is to support playwrights who demonstrate a sustained level of accomplishment, commitment, and artistic excellence. Created in recognition of the particular needs of emerging and established writers, the program offers significant resources intended to further a playwright's career and is available to writers nationally.

Playwrights who have benefited from the Core Writer program include Christina Anderson, Trista Baldwin, Lee Blessing, George Brant, Carlyle Brown, Connie Congdon, Marcus Gardley, Jeffrey Hatcher, Sherry Kramer, Carson Kreitzer, Martyna Majok, Melanie Marnich, Winter Miller, Greg Moss, Qui Nguyen, Kira Obolensky, Jen Silverman, and Alice Tuan.

The Core Writer program gives 25-30 of the most exciting playwrights from across the country the time and tools to develop new work for the stage. All Core Writers receive play development workshops at the Center in collaboration with prominent directors, actors, dramaturgs, and designers. Core Writers are eligible to be included in our formal season of public readings: the PlayLabs Festival and the Ruth Easton New Play Series. Core Writers are also promoted by the Center and provided opportunities through an extensive network of colleges and universities, cultural institutions, and producing theaters.

Each term is three years; Core Writers may reapply for additional terms.

Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. It is not required for an applicant to have had professional productions in order to apply. However, please note that this program is highly competitive and is designed for committed professional playwrights who are pursuing playwriting as their primary career. Students enrolled in a full-time educational program are not eligible.

Each application will contain the following pieces:

-1-2 paragraph Artists Statement.
Use this statement to contextualize your work sample and help the panel get to know you as an artist. Describe your artistic goals and vision as a theater maker. You're only submitting one play, but this statement is your opportunity to describe the larger landscape of your work and to discuss your reasons for writing plays.

-1 page statement of Core Writer Goals
This is a statement, around one page in length, explaining how the Core Writer Program would benefit your career as a playwright. You may want to discuss projects you hope to develop as a Core Writer, specific resources you hope to take advantage of, and/or goals you have for your career. This statement should reflect a clear understanding of the program and the Playwrights' Center and explain to the evaluators why becoming a Core Writer is the right next step for you.

-Full-length play script
A full-length play generally runs at least one hour. If you are submitting a script for a musical or a play that was written in collaboration with another artist (i.e. lyricist), please clearly indicate your role in the writing of the play. Co-written work that does not have a clear division of who created which part will not be accepted—the evaluators need to be able to evaluate your work specifically.

-One letter of recommendation
Please request one letter of recommendation from an individual who is familiar with your work as a playwright. Letters must be received by the application deadline: January 23, 2020. You will be sending a request through the application portal below.

The Sauk sixth annual Plays-in-Development

The Sauk, Hillsdale County's Community Theatre, located in Jonesville, Michigan is seeking entries to consider for our sixth annual Plays-In-Development in 2020. We are seeking unproduced plays. These can be any style (comedy, drama, young audience and/or musical) and any length (one-act or full-length). A completed draft of the play must be submitted. It is understood (and expected) that changes will be made to the script between initial submission and performance.

The selected plays will first go through notes with the artistic director. A show-specific director will then be assigned. The director will work with the playwright prior to an audition draft being submitted. Auditions will take place in mid-June with two weeks of rehearsals prior to public readings. It is expected that the selected playwrights will be involved in the process and be in attendance for final rehearsals and the public reading in Jonesville, MI. 

Playwrights are encouraged to make changes to their scripts throughout the rehearsal process (often handing in new drafts on a weekly or even daily basis). The public staged readings will take place July 10 and 11, 2020. Playwrights will be on site between July 7-12. A royalty is provided to the selected playwrights and The Sauk will provide travel and lodging.

The goal of Plays-in-Development is to help playwrights improve plays that have yet to be produced. By working with a director and actors, the playwright can learn vital information about their work. After the public readings, playwrights are able to participate in a talkback with the audience. We want playwrights to leave the experience with positive and constructive feedback to improve their plays.

The submission deadline is 5 p.m. (EST) on Friday, October 4, 2019. 

The play selection committee will review all submissions and select the scripts to be part of the process. The selected plays will be announced on or before December 2, 2019.

The Experimental Theatre Writing Workshop seeks writers

The Experimental Theatre Writing Workshop (ETWW) is issuing a call for writers who would like a place to develop experimental theatrical pieces.

The Workshop offers a chance for playwrights to explore non-traditional theatre making.  The work must challenge theatrical conventions in some manner.  This can include dialogue, structure, staging, character and/or character development, format or any other manner of pushing at normative theatrical boundaries.

We will be meeting three times this fall -- September 10; October 8 and November 12.  Depending on submissions, invited participants will join us for one, two or all three sessions.  During each meeting, playwrights will receive a 30-minute slot to have-read 15 minutes of text, then have 15 minutes of feedback.  Actors will be provided.  There is no fee to apply or participate.  Meetings will be from 7-10 pm at A.R.T.-NY, 520 8th Ave., 3rd Floor.

The ETWW is being convened by Suzanne Willett (Playwright and Founder of Silver Glass Productions) and Tom Block (Playwright and Founding Producer of the International Human Rights Art Festival).

NoMads Art Collective in Chicago seeks playwrights for 10-minute play laboratory

NoMads Art Collective in Chicago is seeking playwrights for our inaugural 10-minute play laboratory: Sparks.

This year’s theme is "taboo." What conversations make people uncomfortable? What kinds of theatre push beyond the limited “fourth wall" mentality? What have you always wanted to explore in your work that might seem socially unacceptable? We are interested in plays that experiment with taboo in either content or form (or both!).

DETAILS

Through the selection of plays and directors, the NoMads team will match up directors and playwrights. Directors will be in charge of producing the piece with minimal set pieces and technical elements.

The lab is open to playwrights from all over, but playwrights should plan on attending all three (3) performances (10/21-10/23)

Playwrights should note that plays with more than 5 characters cannot be accepted at this time.

We will only accept one 10-minute play per playwright at this time.

Sparks runs from October 21st - 23rd, 2019 at The Frontier.

Submissions for Sparks close August 31 at 11:59PM.

EST/Youngblood is currently accepting applications for membership beginning in the 2019-2020 season. Applications are open to New York City metro area resident playwrights under 30 years old. Membership includes attendance at all weekly meetings, monthly (or more frequent) performances, readings and retreats. Application Requirements
Please complete the form online and include the following materials:

WRITING SAMPLE - up to 25 pages. This can be part of a longer piece or a one-act. Send whatever you think best represents where you are as a playwright right now.

LETTER - The "why Youngblood" letter. Tell us about yourself and why you are interested in membership in the group.

RESUME - Your current playwriting resume.

FULL-LENGTH PLAY - A completed full-length play in its entirety. Note: this can be the full play from which the initial 25 pages was excerpted, or an entirely different piece. In most cases, this additional material will only be read if you are selected as a finalist.

Ingram New Works Lab Application

The Ingram New Works Lab is a season-long generative residency and artistic home-away-from-home for playwrights to create and develop a new play while in residence at Nashville Rep. Lab playwrights travel to Nashville approximately once a month to receive transformative support and radical hospitality as they share and develop a new work from the idea stage to a complete draft to be presented at the 2020 Ingram New Works Festival.

Nashville Rep will provide the playwrights-in-residence:

  • A season-long script development lab that meets in Nashville 
  • Travel, Housing, and Hospitality for all Lab meetings in Nashville
  • An artist-led development process designed to support the playwright
  • Access to professional actors and directors
  • Access to professional marketing and audience development resources
  • A week-long development lab with the Ingram New Works Fellow
  • A staged reading presented as part of the Ingram New Works Festival

Each playwright who accepts the residency will commit to developing a new play from its earliest stages to a full draft, participating in monthly Lab meetings, participation in Playwrights week, and participation in the New Works Festival

All participating Lab playwrights must commit to be available for all dates:

Lab Dates: September 19-22; October 24-27; December 5-8; March 5-8; April 16-19

Playwrights Week: January 11-17, 2020

Ingram New Works Festival: May 11-16, 2020 (Playwrights must be in attendance May 6-17, 2020)

Should a playwright-in-residence miss multiple commitments, they may be asked to forgo their place in the New Works Lab.

·  A one-page letter of intent stating your objectives for working on a new play in the Ingram New Works Lab. The letter must include a description of your proposed project. Please note: the Ingram New Works Project is designed for plays in their earliest stages and does not accept projects that have already received developmental support.

Civilians’ R&D Group

The Civilians’ R&D Group provides writers, composers, directors, and/or performance makers in NYC with a space to develop investigative theater projects.

The group meets 12 times over 9 months, during which time each artist or team of artists shares the progress of their project. The creative process may include interviewing, community engagement, research, or other experimental methods of inquiry. Teams are given a very short rehearsal process to address development goals at the end of the season, culminating in public presentations of the works-in-progress.
