The Fifth Annual Lavender Footlights FestivalThe Fifth Annual Lavender Footlights Festival April 18-22, 2007 Dot 51 Art Gallery 51 NW 36 Street, Miami, FL 33137 Creative Arts Enterprises is seeking submissions for the Fifth Annual Lavender Footlights Festival to be held in Miami on April 18 - 22, 2007. The five-day play reading event was recently named “Best Theatrical Event” by Miami’s SunPost. It will feature plays, one-acts and shorts with gay and lesbian themes that have not been previously produced in Florida. Plays must be gay in theme and should be of immediate importance and/or interest to the LGBT community. Past years have included pieces by noted playwrights such as Ricky J. Martinez, Hal Corey, Michael McKeever, Aoise Stratford, and Claudia Allen. The festival has also included many pieces by artists new to the writing field. The plays have been staged as readings directed and acted by a virtual who’s who of South Florida theatre. The goal of Creative Arts Enterprises for the Lavender Footlights Festival is to foster new works with gay and lesbian themes to be produced by theatres around the country. We hope to act as a market to put new and familiar LGBT playwrights and their works onto the stage to be seen by producers, directors, and – of course – new audiences. Areas of special interest are Plays that support sexual and cultural diversity Plays that deal with issues not commonly dealt with in LGBT theater (aging and gay culture, domestic violence) Plays dealing with controversial issues from a unique viewpoint Note: We’re sorry to say that screenplays cannot be accepted. While they are obviously equally powerful and entertaining, they are not easily adapted to the stage. Thanks for your understanding. General Submission Procedure Each submission should include the following: 1 copy of the script to be read A 1-page synopsis of play (for full length plays only) Cover letter with return address and contact information, as well as a statement that piece has not been previously produced in Florida. Submission Address* Format: Adobe or Word documents Submission email address: submissions@caemia.org Snailmail: Do not send originals. Plays will not be returned. Postmark should be no later than December 31, 2006. Mail to: Lavender Footlights Festival 59 NE 46th Street Miami, FL 33137 *Email submissions preferred Deadline for Submissions: Items must be received no later than December 31, 2006 Selection Process Plays will be reviewed by a jury panel.
