WAREHOUSE THEATRE’S (Croydon, UK) INTERNATIONAL PLAYWRITING FESTIVAL 2006

Deadline: 6-30-2006

Submission Guidelines:

1- The IPF is open to any author regardless of nationality, but all plays should be in English.

2- Plays must be full length and previously unproduced, estimated playing time, not less than 90 minutes and not more than 120 minutes. (Just over a minute a page is a rough guide, when scripts are typed as per rule 3 below.)

3- Scripts must be clearly typed on bond paper, double-spaced with wide margins, pages must be numbered and the text securely bound. Plays must be submitted using a pseudonym to ensure impartiality and the author’s real name removed from all pages of the script. Whilst all reasonable care will be taken, the IPF does not accept responsibility for loss of, or damage to, submitted scripts.

4- Authors must guarantee that they have sole rights to all matter contained within the play. Any play accepted for production elsewhere before the judges’ decision is announced will be disqualified.

5- The Warehouse Theatre Company reserves the right to buy the exclusive option to produce any play entered subject to contract.

6- Authors of the short-listed entries should make all reasonable efforts to attend a Press Call in late October 2006 and to be available to attend rehearsals and readings in November as required.

7- The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence concerning the results can be entered into.

NORTH PARK PLAYWRIGHT FESTIVAL

Deadline: 6-30-2006

The festival was very successful and we produced 23 new plays over four weekends. We are happy to announce our fourth festival for October of 2006. We are planning on four weekends of new short plays. We would love to have you submit another script. We are looking for:

1. Short new plays (no more that 15 minutes, less is fine) that are easily staged and have casts with no more than four people. Our theater is very small and we normally use a minimal set concept in this festival. We have to be able to change sets in just a few minutes as we do six plays each evening of the festival. We don't have space for large casts.

2. We request new work. A play that has had workshops or one or two previous productions is OK, but we are not interested in work that has been produced in numerous other places. Our goal in building the theater was to have a place to produce brand new work and let playwrights have a chance to see their work done for the first time.

3. We seek complete plays rather than excerpts from a larger work.

4. Work will be chosen by the directors we have in the festival. It is not a "contest" and we are not really judging plays in the formal sense. The directors will choose the plays we will produce, within the production budget guidelines we give them.

5. Any subject matter is OK. We don't mind controversial issues, etc.

6. We ask that all submissions be sent to us via snail mail at the theater. Address is North Park Vaudeville and Candy Shoppe, 2031 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego, CA 92104, Attn Summer Golden, Artistic Director. We have too much trouble with differing email, word processing, and computer platform issues to take them via email. Please insure submissions have a title page with complete contact information, a character summary, and are in proper script form.

7. Deadline for submissions is June 30, 2006

General information: We are trying to support new work and involve actors, playwrights, and directors of all experience levels. We have had a wide variety of artists involved from first time directors and actors to an 8 year old playwright (very short, well received play). We feel having a wide range of experience involved helps the new people learn from the more experienced. Please see our website for pictures of our little theater and some of our past productions.

We really appreciate your interest in our theater.

Jeff Bushnell and Summer Golden, North Park Vaudeville and Candy Shoppe, 2031 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego, CA 92104 http://www.northparkvaudeville.com

MILDRED and ALBERT PANOWSKI PLAYWRITING AWARD

The Playwriting Award was established in 1977 by the Forest Roberts Theatre at Northern Michigan University. From 1978 through 1993, the Shiras Institute, a prominent Upper Michigan philanthropic fund, participated in this event, which was known as the Shiras Institute/Forest Roberts Theatre Playwriting Award. Beginning with the Fourteenth Annual Competition, Dr. James A. Panowski, Director of the Forest Roberts Theatre, has provided financial assistance for the competition in memory of his parents, Albert and Mildred Panowski. In 1993, Dr. Panowski became the sole benefactor of the competition, which now bears the name of his parents. The award is designed to encourage and stimulate artistic growth among educational and professional playwrights. It provides students and faculty the unique opportunity to mount and produce an original work on the university stage. The playwright will benefit from seeing the work on its feet in front of an audience and from professional adjudication by guest critics.

JUDGING

Each play will be read and judged by members of a university-wide screening committee. Semi-Finalists will be read by a select departmental committee and Finalists will be judged by an undergraduate and graduate theatre student, the director, the designer, a playwriting instructor and an at-large play reader.

AWARD

$2,000 cast award to the winning playwright.
A fully-mounted production during the upcoming Forest Roberts Theatre Season.
The winning playwright will be flown to Marquette to serve as Artist-in-Residence the week of the show.
The production of the winning play may be entered in the American College Theatre Festival competition.
Room and board will be provided.
Classroom and media appearances, along with conducting seminars and workshops will be part of the residency.
The winning playwright may be asked to participate in a Script Development Workshop during the summer, working with a professional dramaturge, the director, and an assembled cast. Transportation, room and board will be provided.

Prospect Theater Company Seeks Submissions for 2006-07 Dark Nights Series

Prospect Theater Company seeks submissions for it's 2006-07 Dark Nights Series. The deadline for submitting a project proposal is July 31, 2006.

Prospect has eight production slots available in its 2006-07 "Dark Nights" Series, as well as several "one night only" performance opportunities. This is an exciting chance for emerging artists to have their work presented in a Prospect venue on the "dark nights" of one of the company's three 06-07 mainstage productions. Through this program, Prospect's goal is to interact with and support a wide range of artists while filling the theater's dark nights with engaging programming that will bring in new audiences.

Past Dark Nights Series presentations have included: one act plays, cabaret acts, magic acts, concerts, festival evenings of 10 minute plays, sketch comedy shows, and many other formats. Dark Nights projects will ideally be at least 60 minutes and not more than 120 minutes in duration, feature primarily non-union performers, and require minimal production value, as they will be performed on the set of (and using the lighting for) the mainstage production.

Prospect will provide each selected project with 1-4 performance slots, a modest fee to assist with project expenses, and additional (but limited) support for the project's implementation. Prospect will retain all box office income.

To receive submission guidelines and an application please email a request to Dark Nights Producers Dev Bondarin and Merete Muenter at darknights@prospecttheater.org.

For more info, visit www.ProspectTheater.org and click the "Dark Nights" link on the left hand toolbar.

Please make sure the CD or cassette of the score is properly marked as well. Also include: a biography and/or author's history of the play, character breakdown, and brief description or synopsis of the work.
