Brown Couch is pleased to announce the theme for their 4th annual ten-minute play festival: mating rituals. Seems like an easy subject, right? The guy hitting on the girl at the bar practically falls onto the page. But we're hoping that you think outside the box. Your focus should be on the relationships created (or not created) from these rituals: family, friends, lovers, penguins (hey, they mate for life, and who doesn't like penguins?), etc. BCTC welcomes hundreds of scripts from all over the world, so give yours a fair chance by following the rules. 1. Remember, this is a festival of ten-minute plays. Please time your work. If it's clocking in at three minutes, add something. If it's running at 14 minutes, then you'll need to make some cuts. This year we'll be accepting only one script from each playwright, so make it your best one! 2. Please include a title page and a character breakdown at the beginning of your script. Your name should only appear on the title page. Your name will not be released to the reading committee, to ensure objectivity. 3. Scripts may only be submitted electronically. We understand that this may leave some people out, but our entire reading and selection process is done online, and we can't make exceptions. Please send all scripts as an attachment to plays@browncouchtheatre.org. 4. At this time, we are not accepting full length works. Brown Couch's primary source of original work comes from submissions to the festival. From these submissions, we often invite playwrights to submit full length scripts for consideration for future seasons. 5. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, March 12. That means you have all day Sunday to send scripts, but once it's midnight, no more scripts will be considered. We're scheduled to open at the beginning of June, and every deadline is there to make sure that happens.
