NYCPlaywrights is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that sponsors weekly
readings of plays and theatrical works.
We agree with Tony Kushner, who said: "I think post-graduate training for stage actors is necessary,
but not for playwrights... playwrights learn by writing a lot, and finding actors to read
their work out loud."
We also give actors a chance to practice, and our meetings provide an opportunity for theatre artists
to socialize - which may lead to performance or production opportunities.
Visiting
Our meetings are open to the public, and we do not charge admission.
Stop by and visit any Friday. We meet almost every single week of the year,
except July & August and the occasional odd holiday.
You can always check and see if we're meeting by consulting our online schedule.
Meetings
Only writer members of NYCPlaywrights may have readings. Most meetings consist of several readings -
with no writer receiving more than 30 minutes per meeting, unless there's extra time available. For more information about NYCPlaywrights meetings, see
our meetings page.
