NYCPlaywrights Membership

Membership benefits

All members receive ticket discount offers and access to the members-only area of the NYCPlaywrights database. There are four membership categories: Actors, Writers, World-wide Writers, and Supporters. You can be an actor member and a writer member at the same time.

Actor Membership

Actor membership is free. Actors members are listed on our website so that members and the public can learn more about them, and contact them for acting opportunities. Many of our actor members have been contacted for opportunities because someone saw them on our web site.

Actor membership requirements:

  • Sit in on at least one meeting
  • Fill out an actors membership form (hard copy or online)
  • Attend at least one NYCPlaywrights meeting per one 5-month membership period.

(online signup form coming soon) or print an actor membership form, fill it out and bring it to your first NYCPlaywrights meeting - or mail it in, but you'll still have to attend at least one meeting before you can become a member. You will also need to provide a headshot and contact info to be displayed on the NYCPlaywrights web site on the actors list page.

Writer Membership

There are two writer categories - Writers and World-wide Writers. All writer members have the opportunity to submit work for the NYCPlaywrights staged reading fundraisers and have work recorded for posting to the Internet (only monologues at the moment but other types of recording may be added.)

The Writers membership is for those who can attend NYCPlaywrights meetings in person. Member writers are entitled to up to 30 minutes of reading time per meeting, and can reserve reading time (first come first serve) up to 8 meetings in advance through our reading signup form.

Writer membership requirements:

  • Sit in on at least one meeting
  • Fill out a Writers Membership Form
  • Submit a writing sample in standard playscript format. You can get a sample of the standard playscript format here
  • Pay $60 for a five-month membership period. If you can't afford to pay $60 all at once, a payment plan can be arranged. The money is used to help pay for meeting rental space in New York.
  • The Worldwide Writers membership was created in response to the interest of people living too far away to attend meetings in New York City. NYCPlaywrights offers the opportunity to have a reading at NYCPlaywrights, with our experienced, professional actor members. This will be video-recorded for you to downloaded from the Internet or receive in DVD format by land mail.

    Worldwide Writer membership requirements

    • Fill out a Writers Membership Form
    • Submit a writing sample in standard playscript format. Sample playscript format here.
    • Pay $120 for a five-month membership period. This entitles you to one videotaped reading up to 30 minutes. Additional readings during the 5-month membership period will be $100 per reading. These costs cover materials, video editing, postage, etc.

(online signup form coming soon) or print a writer membership form, fill it out and bring it to your first NYCPlaywrights meeting - or mail it in, but you'll still have to attend at least one meeting before you can become a member, unless you have the Worldwide Writer Membership.

If you are not an actor or writer, but still want to be a member of NYCPlaywrights, you can have a Supporting membership

    Supporter requirement: $20 for a 5-month membership

(online signup form coming soon) or print a supporter membership form, fill it out and bring to a meeting or mail it in. Supporting membership does require a meeting attendance - although that is certainly recommended.

If you have any questions about joining us, send an email to info@nycplaywrights.org.

What are script-in-hand readings like? You can get some idea by watching the video clips here from NYCPlaywrights fundraisers and monologues (please note, some videos may contain some language which may be considered offensive.)
