NYCPlaywrights Membership

There are three membership categories: Actor, Writer and Supporter

Actor Membership

Actor membership is free. Actors members are listed on our website so that members and the public can learn more about them, and contact them for acting opportunities. Many of our actor members have been contacted for opportunities because someone saw them on our web site.

Actor membership requirements:

• Sit in on at least one meeting
• Fill out an actors membership form
• Attend at least one NYCPlaywrights meeting every three months period.

Print an actor membership form, fill it out and bring it to a NYCPlaywrights meeting - you have to attend one before you can become a member. You will also need to provide a headshot and contact info to be displayed on the NYCPlaywrights web site on the actors list page.

Writer Membership

There are two writer categories - Writer and World-wide Writer. All writer members have the opportunity to submit work for the NYCPlaywrights staged reading fundraisers and have readings of work at NYCPlaywrights

The Writer membership is for those who can attend NYCPlaywrights meetings in person. Member writers are entitled to up to 30 minutes of reading time per meeting (sometimes more if time is available), and can reserve reading time (first come first serve) up to 8 meetings in advance through our reading signup form.

Writer membership requirements:

The Worldwide Writer membership was created in response to the interest of people living too far away to attend meetings in New York City. NYCPlaywrights offers the opportunity to have a reading at NYCPlaywrights, with our experienced, professional actor members. This will be video-recorded for the Worldwide Writer member and posted in downloadable format on the Internet.

Worldwide Writer membership requirements

• Fill out a Writer Membership Form
• Submit a writing sample in standard playscript format. Sample playscript format here.
• Pay $120 for a three-month membership period. This entitles you to one videotaped reading up to 30 minutes. Additional readings during the 3-month membership period will be $100 per reading. These costs cover materials, video editing, postage, etc. The Worldwide Writer membership period, like the Writer membership period, is counted only by the weeks that NYCPlaywrights holds a meeting.

Supporter Membership

A Supporter membership is for those who are not an actor or writer, but still want to be a member of NYCPlaywrights.

Supporter membership requirement: $20 for a 3-month membership. Only those weeks during which NYCPlaywrights meets will be counted against the membership period.

Print a supporter membership form, fill it out and bring to a meeting or mail it in. Supporting membership does require a meeting attendance - although that is certainly recommended.
