Roister Doister Publishing seeks plays for young people

Roister Doister Publishing is committed to finding and nuturing new writing talent. One of the ways in which we will do this is through competitions. Our first competition will be a search for new plays for young people. Anything goes with regards to the content, themes and genre of the play and we're looking for entries that are as daring as they are creative. There will be two categories for the 2015 playwriting competition.

One Act Plays for Young People

1. The work must be 25-50 minutes in length.
2. The minimum number of cast members involved in the play is two.
3. The work must not have been previously published.
4. The work may have been performed prior to entry to the competition.
5. Entry to the competition will be free.
6. Written feedback on each work will be available at a cost of £10. There is no obligation to request feedback on the work and it will have no bearing on the outcome of the competition.
7. The winning entry will receive their own publication deal with Roister Doister Publishing for 5 years as well as an advance of £100.
8. The top five works will be features in a compendium of plays published exclusively by Roister Doister Publishing for 5 years.
9. Authors may submit up to five entries each.
10. The deadline for submissions will be midnight on the 3rd July 2015.
11. Winners will be announced on the 1st August 2015.
12. All entries must be accompanied by the covering application form.
13. Authors should consider who they are writing for. For the purposes of this competition 'young people' are defined as being 8 - 18 years of age.
14. Submissions can be made via email or post.


Full-length Plays for Young People

1. The work must be in two acts and be 75 - 120 minutes in length.
2. The minimum number of cast members involved in the play is two.
3. The work must not have been previously published.
4. The work may have been performed prior to entry to the competition.
5. Entry to the competition will be free.
6. Written feedback on each work will be available at a cost of £20. There is no obligation to request feedback on the work and it will have no bearing on the outcome of the competition.
7. The winning entry will receive their own publication deal with Roister Doister Publishing for 5 years, an advance of £150 and a rehearsed reading of the work.
8. The top five works will be features in a compendium of plays published exclusively by Roister Doister Publishing for 5 years.
9. Authors may submit up to five entries each.
10. The deadline for submissions will be midnight on the 3rd July 2015.
11. Winners will be announced on the 1st August 2015.
