Learn How to Be Your Own Producer

Primary Stages presents

with Sasha Eden (Co-Founder and Artistic Director, WET Productions)

This workshop is designed to guide each artist – actor, dancer, director, writer – through the process of becoming a successful producer, empowering all artists to develop and produce their own work. What if Christopher Guest had a great idea and did a few sketches with actor friends, but never felt motivated (or bad ass) enough to make Spinal Tap? Or what if Richard Linklater didn’t effectively rally his troops to commit 12 years to Boyhood? These artists, and countless others, are great examples of visionary entrepreneurs who successfully produced their own work: work that was personal, fulfilling, and reminded them why they chose the path of being a creative artist.

This workshop will guide you through each of the producing fundamentals: developing your concept, working with source material, participating in successful collaborations, merging entrepreneurial efforts with artistic inspiration, and the nuts and bolts of building a production company. You’ll walk away with confidence in making budgets, identifying and developing a brand identity, pursuing funding, marketing, and audience cultivation, as well as the courage to embark on your role as artistic producer.
