Everyday Inferno Theatre Company announces a call for submissions

web site

Everyday Inferno Theatre Company announces a general call for submissions of new plays for the 2013-2014 season. Submissions will be considered for two separate projects, details for each provided below.

What kind of plays are we looking for?

We believe in theatrical magic and the power of storytelling. We are looking for plays that explore big ideas, epic journeys, and unexpected surprises. Plays that are theatrical in nature. BIG theatre. We’re not looking for kitchen-sink dramas (though we think they’re great). We’re not looking for scripts that would be at home on a TV screen. We do have a particular interest in casts that are primarily young and which have a multitude of meaty female roles, but if you send us the best play we’ve ever read and it’s for two 80 year old men… we’ll try to find a way to produce it! Beyond those guidelines… the world (well, our company at least) is your oyster. Surprise and delight us! There are no limits!

Have a play that you feel may fit our company but doesn’t fit either of the projects listed?

Send it along! In addition to the specific projects we are seeking scripts for, we are always interested in reading plays that may be a good fit for us. If you’re sending a script for general consideration rather than for one of the projects listed below, please indicate such in your email subject line and cover letter and do note that we can make no guarantees re: response time to your submission.

Winter 2013 – Evening of Shorts (Submissions)

Length: 15-45 minutes in production / 60 pages or less

Subject: Any! The play must include one moment of magic or fantasy – what that means specifically is completely open to your interpretation.

Playwrights: NYC area or able to travel at least occasionally during the production period (November-December, 2013).

Deadline for submissions: October 1, 2013

(playwrights will be notified regarding the status of their submission no later than October 31, 2013).

Compensation: Everyday Inferno Theatre Co. will cover all production costs associated with rehearsing and performing the piece. Playwrights retain copyright and full ownership of their plays. No further compensation will be provided.

Please include the following with each submission:
- a bio and/or resume, and a production or development history if applicable
- all plays should have the author’s name, mailing address, phone number, and email on the first page, and all pages must be numbered
- the playwright must own the rights to the play up to the end of December 2013 (i.e. plays cannot be owned by a publisher)

Summer 2014 – Full-Length Production (Submissions)

Length: 90 minutes or less in production

Subject: Please keep our company’s focus (as described above) in mind, but we are open to anything.

Playwrights: No requirements, open to all.

Deadline for submissions: December 1, 2013

(playwrights will be notified regarding the status of their submission no later than January 31, 2014).

Compensation: Everyday Inferno Theatre Co. will cover all production costs associated with rehearsing and performing the piece. Playwrights retain copyright and full ownership of their plays. Playwright will also receive a small stipend.

Please include the following with each submission:

  • a brief synopsis of the play
  • a bio and/or resume, and a production or development history if applicable
  • all plays should have the author’s name, mailing address, phone number, and email on the first page, and all pages must be numbered
  • the playwright must own the rights to the play up to the end of October 2014 (i.e. plays cannot be owned by a publisher)
