Bare Fiction Magazine seeks plays

web site

We feel that playwrights get a raw deal in literary magazines and we’re here to change that once and for all. Submissions for play extracts or short plays should be limited to 10 pages of text. Please give a full synopsis in your covering letter and, if applicable, include details of any performances of the text you have received or productions planned.

Bare Fiction Magazine will be independently published three times a year, with issues in March, July & November, plus a special launch issue in December 2013.

We read personal submissions of work in the English language all year round, therefore we aim to respond quickly (usually within 28 days). Though we do accept simultaneous submissions, please do keep in mind this time frame when submitting and ensure that you contact us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Likewise, if we are unable to accommodate your writing in our pages, we will let you know in plenty of time should you wish to submit elsewhere. If you have not heard from us within 50 days, please do get in touch to enquire as to the status of your submission.

Please do not send more than one active submission at a time. We do not accept translations or work that have been previously published in print. Only work submitted by the author will be read. No submissions by publishers, presses or agents please. If your work has been published online then you must state in your cover letter all details of the prior publication, including web page url and contact details so that we can attribute prior publication accordingly.

Contributors will receive a digital copy of the magazine issue in which their submission is printed.

Please ensure that your name does not appear on the uploaded documents. The uploaded file/s will of course be electronically tagged so that we know who they're from, but we operate a blind submission policy so that we can truly appraise your work on merit alone, with at least 2 or 3 different editors reviewing all submissions before passing comments to the editor.

Only online submissions will be accepted for Bare Fiction Magazine, and only those submitted via our submissions forms will be read. Bare Fiction Magazine is a fully independent literary magazine, staffed by part time volunteers who love words dearly but need their editorial process to be streamlined, therefore any submissions sent in by email or by post will be deleted and/or recycled.

Full copyright of any submitted work remains with the author. Submissions chosen for publication are deemed to grant to Bare Fiction, a non-exclusive, worldwide licence over each piece of work submitted. Selected pieces may be printed in publications, anthologies and journals hosted by Bare Fiction and may appear in electronic format on the Bare Fiction Magazine website, or in other electronic forms.

PLEASE ONLY MAKE A SINGLE SUBMISSION FOR ANY DEADLINE.

We receive a lot of submissions and are therefore unable to give personal feedback. We would ask that you please refrain from re-submitting for the same issue if your initial work is not accepted for publication at that time, unless specifically requested to do so by a member of the editorial team.
